Questions & Answers about the Admissions Process

What is The Hollywood Schoolhouse Admissions Policy?
PRESCHOOL – We believe that a child’s success in an Early Childhood program depends on a home-school connection. Therefore, entrance into the preschool is based on the family interview, and we do not meet or assess children until after they have been accepted. Our acceptance criteria are: We strive for a balance of boys and girls in our classes, as well as socio-economic and cultural diversity. We look for varying family structures, geographic and racial diversity. Although priority is accorded to faculty and staff children, as well as siblings of current students, enrollment is never guaranteed.
SIBLING POLICY -- Siblings will be given special attention during the admissions process, with the above criteria in mind. We give priority consideration to siblings of present students, but enrollment is not guaranteed. We welcome sibling applications, but encourage families to apply to other schools if they will not have a child at the Schoolhouse the year of the younger sibling’s enrollment. Sibling families are expected to have demonstrated a level of commitment, involvement and participation within our community.
KINDERGARTEN – Entrance into the Kindergarten is based on family interview, observation of the child, and recommendations from the applicant’s preschool teachers. The Hollywood Schoolhouse welcomes all types of learners. Children who currently attend the Hollywood Schoolhouse Preschool are given priority, but entrance is not guaranteed. Families will be given information about the Kindergarten application process in September, the year before their child would enter Kindergarten. All children must be 5 years old by September 1st of the year they will be entering Kindergarten. There are no exceptions.
1st - 8th grade – Entrance based on developmentally appropriate testing, as well as a family interview and a Hollywood Schoolhouse visit by the child.
The Hollywood Schoolhouse does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, ethnicity, national origin, culture, religion, family structure, sexual orientation, financial resources or disability. A family’s ability to pay in no way affects the admissions process.
Financial aid information is available in January for the following year. We have a limited financial aid budget, but try to help everyone in need.
