APPLICATION PROCESS FOR ENTRANCE INTO the Early Childhood Education Program and Elementary K-8

ADMISSIONS POLICY

EARLY CHILDHOOD
We believe that a child’s success in an Early Childhood program depends on a home-school connection. Therefore, entrance into the preschool is based on a family interview, and we do not meet or assess children until after they have been accepted. Our acceptance criteria are: To strive for a balance of boys and girls in our classes, as well as socio-economic and cultural diversity. We look for varying family structures, geographic and racial diversity. Although priority is accorded to faculty and staff children, as well as siblings of current students, enrollment is never guaranteed. Family interviews are scheduled in the fall, and admissions decisions are mailed out in early March. We are not able to interview all applicants, but use the above criteria, and anticipation of a limited amount of openings in the preschool to determine our list of interviewed families. Children must be 2.9 years old by September 1st the year they will be entering preschool.

SIBLING POLICY
Siblings will be given special attention during the admissions process, with the above criteria in mind. We give priority consideration to siblings of present students, but enrollment is not guaranteed. We welcome sibling applications, but encourage families to apply to other schools if they will not have a child at the Schoolhouse the year of the younger sibling’s enrollment. Sibling families are expected to have demonstrated a level of commitment, involvement and participation within our community.

KINDERGARTEN
Entrance into the Kindergarten is based on family interview, observation of the child, and recommendations from the applicant’s preschool teachers. The Hollywood Schoolhouse welcomes all types of learners. Children who currently attend the Hollywood Schoolhouse Preschool are given priority, but entrance is not guaranteed. A member of the Admissions Committee visits outside applicants in their preschool setting, in order to better assess their Kindergarten readiness. All children must be 5 years old by September 1st of the year they will be entering Kindergarten. There are no exceptions.

1st - 8th grade
Entrance based on developmentally appropriate testing, as well as a family interview and sometimes a Hollywood Schoolhouse visit by the child.

The Hollywood Schoolhouse does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, ethnicity, national origin, culture, religion, family structure, sexual orientation, financial resources or disability. A family's ability to pay in no way affects the admissions process.

THE TOUR
Please call the admissions office at (323) 465-1320 to schedule a tour . Tours are weekly during the school day. We also have open houses that we encourage you to attend.
**So that we may focus our attention on your interests, we request that you do not bring children to the tour.

THE APPLICATION
Please fill out and submit the application (PDF), along with a $75 application fee and a family photo. Please note that we give preference to siblings of current families; however, due to the overwhelming number of applications, legacies of former students will be placed on the waiting list with outside applicants.

PARENT INTERVIEW
This interview usually lasts about half an hour, and is an opportunity for you to ask more questions about the ECE program and for our admissions persons to learn more about you.

THE PLAYDATE/ENROLLMENT MEETING
We typically do not meet the children we accept into the Early Childhood program until after they have been accepted, exceptions are made in with our youngest applicants. A playdate for accepted children is scheduled closer to the start date so that teachers can determine developmental levels and finalize class lists.

Children from our ECE program are given priority enrollment to our elementary program; however, enrollment is not guaranteed and current ECE families must apply to the Kindergarten.

We thank you again for your interest in our school community.
